
Samsung has risen up to Google’s Android OS challenge by making one of the finest smart phones from its stables. Codenamed Bigfoot, it is one of the few Samsung products powered by Android OS. Samsung Bigfoot supports both 3G and GSM technology, thus providing an edge over other Android Phones. The display is a full touch capacitive display screen which skips through pages with a tiny flick like the Apple iPhone. The cell phone comes with a full hardware horizontal slide out QWERTY keyboard.
Another pleasant surprise the handset holds is that Samsung Bigfoot comes with Android 2.0 also named as “Donut”. This literally means Bigfoot is strides more efficient than the previous version of Android 1.5. Samsung Spica is the other Samsung product which also comes with the same Android OS. The camera of the Bigfoot is a 3MP camera which has auto focus feature integrated onto it.
The phone is much sleeker and thinner in appearance when compared to Samsung i7500. Volume controls are present on the spine of the cell phone without compromising on the sleek design of the handset. Various widgets are supported by the cell phone including calendar, world clock and social networking sites.
Connectivity features of the cell phone include Bluetooth version 2.0 and Wi-Fi. USB version 2.0 is also present on Samsung Bigfoot. A Digital compass and a built-in accelerometer are the additional features present. A navigation button is present below the display screen of the device. The battery pack is Li-ion which has a rated power of 1500mAh. Bigfoot has an internal memory of 100MB and the memory can be expanded further using Micro SD cards. The video playback of the device includes MPEG4 and the music player supports MP3, WMA, AAC and WAV format. The usual predictive text input is also supported by this Samsung cell phone. A GPS system, which meets all, possible navigation requirement is also present.
All those interested in this mobile phone has to wait a little bit longer. Samsung was supposed to launch this cell phone along with other Samsung products on the last session of 2009. However, the launch date has been prolonged and no news has been leaked so far referring to the actual launch date. The retail price of Samsung Bigfoot also still remains to be seen until the official launch.
