Kineto Wireless, a leader in solutions that allow the access of broadband over mobile announced that its “Smart Wi-Fi Application” is ready to deployed for the Google Android Phones. The Smart Wi-Fi Application will help Mobile operators address the problem of capacity crunch as well as coverage which is associated with smart phones.
Still in testing phase, Kineto's Smart Wi-fi Application has been proven to be compatible with Android 1.6 and higer versions on Android Development Platform. Currently, major handset manufacturers around the world are testing the application on their handsets while Kineto is performing operator tests and commercial mobile networks around the globe.
Vice president and general manager of Kineto’s Client Business Unit, Mark Powell stated that “Mobile operators are anxiously evaluating a wide range of technologies to address the capacity crunch and indoor coverage challenges posed by smartphones.Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi Application is a low-cost, low-risk solution that extends the reach of the mobile network onto Wi-Fi access points already deployed in subscriber’s homes and offices.”
Kineto Smart Wi-fi incorporates the following features:
- Transforms existing Wi-Fi access points into seamless extensions of the mobile network, thus increasing coverage as well as augmenting the capacity in the places where subscribers demand is high – i.e at home and in the office.
- Easily integrates with the smartphone’s existing user interface hence the subscribers have the same experience (dialer, contacts list, phone number, billing,…) when connected to Wi-Fi or the cellular network.
- Extenuates the battery life by hibernating the cellular radio when Wi-Fi is operational.
Moreover, you can use the application to access Wi-fi when on international roaming so that you can avoid expensive international roaming charges.
However, this is just a small part of the Smart Wi-Fi Solution which was introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2010.
